Healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, may be eligible to apply for a work visa in Canada.
The process begins with finding an employer willing to sponsor you. Once an employer is found, they will need to go through the process of becoming a designated employer and then they can submit a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) application to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to demonstrate that there is a need for a foreign worker and that no Canadians or permanent residents are available to fill the position. Once the LMIA is approved, the foreign worker can then apply for a work permit.
It’s important to note that the process for healthcare professionals may differ based on the type of healthcare profession and the province or territory in which the professional will be working. For example, some provinces have specific agreements or programs in place for certain healthcare professionals, such as doctors or nurses, while others do not.
If you are healthcare professional, it’s recommended that you consult the relevant regulatory body in the province or territory in which you wish to work, as well as the Government of Canada’s website for information on immigration and work permits for healthcare professionals.
